Although Wrexham had a successful January transfer window, a player is unlikely to ever play for the team again because of a decision made by Phil Parkinson.
In the end, Wrexham brought in three new players over the winter, but it took them three weeks to actually make a move.
Although it was initially unclear how he would be deployed, Ryan Longman has performed admirably at Wrexham after leaving Championship team Hull City.
Following the arrival of the wing-back, Wrexham acquired two talented players, putting a stop to their protracted hunt for a new striker.
Jay Rodriguez has a wealth of Premier League experience, and Sam Smith brings with him an incredible League One goal scoring record.
The majority of Wrexham supporters should be happy with the way their team performed during the winter transfer window, but Phil Parkinson’s choice means they will probably lose out on a transfer price this summer with a player who is unlikely to play for them ever again.
The future of Sam Dalby was one of the most prominent tales that emerged from the Racecourse Ground during the winter.
After dropping in the hierarchy, the striker departed Wales in the summer to sign a season-long loan with Dundee United.
But after having a spectacular spell in Scotland, there were rumors that Wrexham may call up Dalby in January.
However, that did not happen, and it now appears quite probable that the 25-year-old will go as a free agency when his contract expires at the end of June.

At the end of 2024, Wrexham extended an offer to Dalby, although there are unverified rumors that he recently turned it down.
It’s easy to see why the Englishman has done so because if Parkinson actually wanted to use him, he should have recalled him last month and offered him playing time in the second half of 2024/25. Now though, it makes sense for the player to reject that contract before becoming a free agent in the summer when he can then sign for anyone he wants. Given his current form, Wrexham could have got a decent transfer sum for him later this year if he’d penned a new deal but will now almost certainly lose him for nothing.
Dalby began his playing career on the books of Leyton Orient before securing a move to Leeds United in 2018.
He then joined Watford, who were playing in the Premier League at the time, but things didn’t really work out.
The forward has had a mixed career, which has included netting 35 goals for various clubs.
With 11 goals in 24 games, Dalby’s tenure at Dundee United has been by far his most productive. It will be intriguing to watch where the striker ends up when 2025–2026 officially begins.
