Wrexham Boss issues statement on Squad Focus

The Welsh side secured their second successive promotion with a resounding 6-0 win over relegation candidates Forest Green Rovers last weekend. With club top scorer Paul Mullin, the joint-second highest scorer in League Two, adding two more goals to his account to take him to 23 for the season. It’s highly likely that Mullin will be in a Wrexham shirt next season, but the same can’t be said about some of his teammates.

The contracts of midfielders James McClean and Luke Young, defenders Callum McFadzean, Aaron Hayden, Jordan Tunnicliffe, and Ben Tozer, and goalkeepers Mark Howard, Rob Lainton, and Liam Hall expire at the end of the current campaign.

First-choice custodian Arthur Okonkwo, who is on loan from Arsenal, has a contract that expires this summer, but his parent club has not yet extended it. As a result, his loan will also expire. This season, he’s participated in 34 league games and has 13 clean sheets.

Since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney acquired the Red Dragons in 2020, they have gained a lot of attention, thanks in part to the success of the television series “Welcome to Wrexham.”

Parkinson stated via the BBC that he hoped to retain the majority of his present team for the upcoming season, as his team has won their past three games in a row.

“We need to sit down and address the issue of our numerous players who are not under contract,”

“Respecting the athletes who are not under contract is our top priority. We didn’t have many people out of contract last year, but things are different this year.

“Those discussions are critical, and it’s imperative that we conclude them as soon as possible.”

The 56-year-old went on to say:

“I am really excited to take on that challenge throughout the summer months. The massive challenge for us is can we build this squad strongly to challenge in League One.”

In their last two games in the fourth division, Wrexham will visit Crewe Alexandra before playing their final game of the season at the Racecourse Ground against League Two winners Stockport County. It promises to be a thrilling encounter for both teams.
