Breaking news: Wrexham boss has been sacked

Throughout his career, Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has overseen more than 1,000 games and led the team to multiple promotions.

Although Parkinson’s style of play in the most recent loss to Leyton Orient at the Racecourse Ground infuriated the fans, they are aware of how far the team has gone under his leadership.

The entire community has a lot to thank Parkinson for after he took over and put Wrexham in the middle of the National League standings. The team is still very much in the running for promotion to League One.

The manager has talked about the negotiations that led him to North Wales. He joined the Red Dragons in the summer of 2021, the first season of Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds’ employment.

Speaking to Sky Sports Football’s YouTube channel, Parkinson has opened up on the talks that brought him to the club back in 2021.

Parkinson stated: “At the time like you say I had just left Sunderland and I’d never managed in the National League before and I didn’t know a lot about the league. You know, people say football is football but it’s important to understand the level you’re going in to.”

The 57-year-old then revealed the moment that he became convinced that Wrexham was the right career move for him at the time.

“You know I couldn’t resist coming on board and being part of something,” Parkinson remarked after speaking with the owners and going over the plans in greater depth moving forward.

“I had to assume responsibility to be the man to bring the club back into the league after 15 years out of the EFL and the suffering and anguish of the local supporters.”

Being criticized and subjected to differing viewpoints about how to make the team you are managing better is a part of being a football manager.

Parkinson is currently dealing with the ongoing discussion about the midfield balance and Rich Fay’s doubts about Mark Howard’s selection.

Because of how similar their styles are, George Dobson and Matty James find it difficult to play together, which limits the team’s creativity.

With all of his experience and expertise, Parkinson needs to figure out a way to give his attackers Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez high-quality service, but supporters can be sure the manager will manage.
