It’s just the begining Wrexham manager

PHIL PARKINSON praised an incredible October, and the Wrexham boss is hoping for an as successful November.

The Reds played seven games this month, winning five of them and drawing two more. This extended their unbeaten streak to eight games across all competitions. In September’s final game, they overcame a 3-3 deficit to secure a draw with Crewe Alexandra.

October’s highlights included wins away at fast-moving Crawley Town and Notts County, which helped Wrexham move up to third place in League Two. The Reds also won 3-0 at Crewe to advance to the EFL Trophy knockout rounds.

Parkinson is eager to continue the team’s recent success as Wrexham has six games scheduled for November, beginning on Saturday at Field Mill against fourth-tier foe Mansfield Town in the FA Cup first round.

“Obviously, it’s crucial, as we have come to one of our rivals who are right up there and taken three points,” Parkinson said after watching Wrexham defeat Notts County 2-0 on Saturday. Parkinson’s team now has the same amount of points as the second-place Magpies and is five behind leaders Stockport County.

“Looking at October and the games we played—Bradford away in front of 20,000 supporters, Mansfield away, Crawley away, and Notts County away—it is a tribute to all of us that we were able to emerge from it the way we did.

“We have played many of the teams in and around us away from home, so finishing October with a win is fantastic for us. It was a challenging schedule.

“It goes without saying that beating one of your rivals—not just this year but in previous years as well—in the way we have is a huge confidence boost for us, but we won’t get ahead of ourselves because it is still early in the season – not that we needed much confidence boosting.

“Now we need to get ready for what is going to be another exciting month ahead.”

Leading scorer Elliot Lee scored his tenth goal of the year in the 73rd minute to give Wrexham the advantage over Notts County.

Although it looked as though Ben Tozer, the centre back, deflected Lee’s attempt, the playmaker is nevertheless credited with the goal.

The Reds’ manager continued, “Obviously Elliott is claiming it because he has hit the target.

“It would be wonderful for Ben if it hit him!

“We had a nice calmness about us and I am very pleased with the way we went about our business.”
