Phil Parkinson signs transfer for Wrexham key player leave in January

Wrexham could let Will Boyle leave in January

Wrexham signed Will Boyle from Huddersfield Town in the 2023 summer transfer window

During the 2025 winter season, Wrexham is anticipated to be active on both the incoming and departing fronts.

As the campaign draws closer to its halfway point, Wrexham is well in the running for promotion.
The Red Dragons are currently in second place in League One, just behind Wycombe Wanderers, following their victory over Lincoln City on Tuesday.

Phil Parkinson’s team is expected to be active in the transfer market throughout the winter to help them reach their aims, since a third consecutive promotion is quite likely to happen in 2024–2025.

With a third successive promotion firmly on the cards in 2024/25, Phil Parkinson’s team are set to be active in the transfer market over the winter to help achieve their goals.

The main priority at the Racecourse Ground in terms of incomings looks to be a number nine, with Wrexham eyeing a striker with Championship experience.

Already, the Red Dragons have been offered at least 12 centre-forwards but specific names are yet to emerge.

While incomings are likely, we could also see a few exits in Wales over the next month or so.

The centre-back played 28 times during the club’s 2023/24 promotion-winning campaign, with Parkinson labelling Boyle ‘outstanding’ in February.

However, the 29-year-old has seen his game time dramatically reduced this term, making just three cup appearances.

Now, EFL pundit Liam Grice, speaking to Football League World, has suggested Boyle could be loaned in January before a potential summer sale.

He said: “Will Boyle’s been the unfortunate casualty of having a lot of depth in one position.

“When Max Cleworth is a nailed-on starter because he’s been good this season, and Lewis Brunt has recently come into the team, and played in the position that Boyle tends to play in and performed excellently, there’s really not much room for him to get in.

“So, I think Will Boyle does have to leave Wrexham, maybe on loan to a League Two club, build up some of his form and we should maybe cash in in the summer.”

Which players could Wrexham sell in January transfer window
The loan or even sale of Boyle makes a lot of sense given just how far down he is in the defensive pecking order right now.

Elsewhere, 19-year-old stopper Aaron James could also do with a loan move to gain some much-needed senior experience.

Jacob Mendy is in a similar situation to Boyle and has seen limited action in 2024/25, meaning he too could be eyeing an exit.

Matty James and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson are facing uncertain futures at Wrexham as well, with both their contracts due to expire on December 31st, 2024.
