Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney told to sack Wrexham manager

Wrexham owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have been told to sack manager Phil Parkinson if they truly aspire to make it to the Premier League.

  • Ex-Wrexham player Sinclair speaks on Red Dragons
  • Says to make Premier League, Parkinson will have to go
  • Manager doing nothing wrong but lacks top-flight experience

    WHAT HAPPENED?

The ex-Chelsea defender, who also crafted his trade with Wrexham later in his career, spoke at length to finance group Stocklytics about the state of the Welsh club.

Sinclair believes that although the Red Dragons have made immense progress under Parkinson, come the future, it may be time to move on from the now-55-year-old. His lack of top-flight experience worries the former Jamaica international, but he doesn’t want the club to be drastic with their decision-making, either.Phil Parkinson Wrexham 2023

    WHAT SINCLAIR SAID

Speaking to finance group Stocklytics, Sinclair: “Along the way, I think that (changing the manager) is a natural transition and something that happens as a football club gets bigger. You want the person running things to have a similar profile to the football club.

“You look at Birmingham City with Wayne Rooney, I guess that was the main reason for hiring him. With what John Eustace was doing, I can’t think of any other reason, aside from his profile, as to why they would want to move on to Wayne Rooney and someone who lacks experience as a manager.

“That sometimes happens. But at the same time with Phil Parkinson, I think they’ve got an experienced Football League manager. I still feel that he’s got a lot to offer as they progress through the leagues.

“When they get to the Championship or Premier League, you look at his CV and it’s not great. He hasn’t managed a lot of Premier League or Championship clubs. That’s when they might look to differ who’s running the football club. But for me. Parkinson is doing a fantastic job and I hope he can continue to do that and his stock will rise along with the club’s progress.”
