Goalie Arthur Okonkwo’s injury on Tuesday against Harrogate Town dealt a serious blow to Wrexham’s injury situation.
Okonkwo was injured in a collision early in the game at Harrogate. Despite needing extensive medical attention on the field, the goalie was initially able to play on. After receiving additional medical attention during another stoppage, he was later observed taking painkillers and did not come out of the break. At half-time, Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson decided to substitute Mark Howard.
There are worries that Okonkwo may have to stay on the sidelines due to a jaw injury. Wrexham will undoubtedly be hoping that their custodian won’t need to take a significant amount of time off. The 22-year-old, who joined the Red Dragons on a season-long loan from Premier League powerhouse Arsenal, has established himself as a regular this year.
Prior to the match, Okonkowo of Wrexham had the highest save percentage in all of League Two for thwarting attempts.
The fitness of Okonkwo will be a worry for Wrexham ahead of their upcoming game. The following time out, Parkinson’s team will play National League South team Yeovil Town in the FA Cup second round of the renowned competition. Howard will be expected to take Okonkwo’s place in goal if he is ruled out.
