Wrexham beat Mansfield and are home to Yeovil in round two

PHIL PARKINSON wanted his players to make supporters proud again in the FA Cup and Wrexham delivered as they set-up a second round tie at home to National League South leaders Yeovil Town.

There have been many cup surprises throughout the years, and the Reds made it to the fourth round of the competition last year. They stunned Championship leaders Coventry City with a stunning comeback, but after a tough rematch, they lost to Premier League-bound Sheffield United.

For their first-round match on Saturday, Wrexham travelled to Mansfield Town, another League Two powerhouse. Paul Mullin and Sam Dalby scored goals each side of halftime to give Wrexham a 2-1 victory.

Over 550 supporters arrived at Field Mill for the evening kickoff, which was broadcast live on S4C. While promotion is the team’s top aim, Parkinson emphasised that his team needs to do well in the cup.

The Reds’ manager stated, “I told the boys before the game that we respect Wrexham Football Club’s FA Cup history.” That is crucial.

“The FA Cup means a lot to us, and we have a great relationship with the people in Wrexham because of how we have performed and conducted ourselves.”

“We have a great tradition here, and whether we win, lose, or draw at Manfield, it was important that we gave a performance that our fans could be proud of, both at home and among those who travelled a long distance, and I believe we have done that.”

“The night was successful for the Wrexham Football Club.” It was a fantastic chance to not only advance to the next round but also defeat one of our fiercest competitors in League Two.

“Mansfield is a strong team, but so are we, and we performed well when it counted most.”

Yeovil, who were relegated from the fifth division the previous season and are now leading the National League South, advanced after defeating Gateshead 3-2.

The games for the second round will take place on December 1, 2, and 3.
