Despite WREXHAM’s incredible form and current League Two high, Phil Parkinson has welcomed a break from the promotion battle.
The Reds’ impressive 2-0 victory over rivals on Saturday has moved them up to third place in the standings, five points behind leaders Stockport County. Notts County’s winning streak in all competitions now stands at eight games.
The league schedule is suspended tomorrow as Wrexham travels to Field Mill to take on Mansfield Town, who are undefeated in the fourth division this year. The Reds’ last EFL Trophy group stage match takes place at home against Port Vale the following Tuesday.
Parkinson believes that while promotion is the top priority, the cup ties are not an unwanted distraction.
He said, “I don’t think it’s a shame.”
“I eagerly anticipate FA Cup weekend every year.
“Obviously, the away match against Mansfield isn’t what we wanted—we were hoping for a home match—but it’s still an intriguing matchup against a team we’ve already faced this season.
Although Mansfield has had a fantastic start to the season, our goal is to advance to the second round.
Wrexham had a difficult schedule of games, which included the goalless draw at Mansfield, but they finished October undefeated.
When his team plays the Stags in the cup this month, Parkinson wants them to continue where they left off.
“When the fixtures came out, I think everybody looked at October and thought ‘that is going to be some month!’,” he stated.
“Everyone deserves a great deal of credit for overcoming it the way we did.
“We are happy with how we concluded the month, winning at Notts County, a game we always knew would be challenging.
“We want to freshen up from the league mentally which is great for us and start our November in style.”
