Striker adds to the long list of people missing
AHEAD OF TIME? After joining the Welsh team in the summer, the former Scottish international has made 10 appearances in League Two and has been a key component of boss Phil Parkinson’s plans. Fletcher has been playing with a knee ailment, but it has gotten to the point where surgery is now necessary. Parkinson stated that the striker would undergo surgery on Wednesday; the exact day of his comeback cannot be determined until the procedure is finished.
WHAT THEY SAID: The Wrexham manager said reporters, “Steven has had a problem with his knee and the specialist has decided he needs an operation.” “After being here for three or four weeks, he just overextended it and tried to move on, but sadly, it came to the point where he couldn’t, so he is having surgery. It won’t be known how long he will be out until the surgeon has finished the procedure.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE: Jordan Tunnicliffe is recovering from a knee injury that will probably keep him out for another two to three weeks, while Eoghan O’Connell and Ryan Barnett are also out for eight weeks, leaving Wrexham without many vital players. Although Aaron Hayden is thought to be nearing the end of his rehabilitation and should be back with the team in the coming days, goalie Rob Lianton’s comeback date is still uncertain as he recovers from a knee injury.
