Luke Armstrong was minutes away from joining Wrexham over the summer – but the deal collapsed at the 11th hour – and Ryan Reynolds has now missed out on his man again
Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham have suffered a major setback ahead of the January transfer window.
Wrexham were minutes away from signing Harrogate Town striker Luke Armstrong in the summer, but the paperwork was not completed before the 11pm deadline. Armstrong, on the other hand, stayed in North Yorkshire and has continued to impress.
Reynolds and co will be unable to relocate for Armstrong, who is expected to leave Harrogate in two weeks. Armstrong has agreed to terms with Carlisle, making him the club’s first signing under their new ownership.
Wrexham have settled into life in the Football League after being promoted from the National League. They are now third in the table, with just Stockport and Barrow ahead of them.
They will have to fight for promotion without Armstrong, according to a statement: “Harrogate Town, Carlisle United, and Luke Armstrong can all confirm they have all reached and completed an agreement for a permanent transfer on 1 January 2024.”
“Having already successfully completed his medical at Brunton Park, Luke will now leave Town with immediate effect to begin training with United, pending the opening of the transfer window and transfer of his registration.”
Armstrong departs with Harrogate just above the drop zone, with the Sulphites now ranked 16th in the table. Simon Weaver’s side has been punching above their weight in the big levels since they were promoted for the first time in covid.
