Wrexham star’s praises for helping nightmare’

Wrexham defender Anthony Forde and his wife Laura were rescued by Ryan Reynolds after Laura was diagnosed with a brain tumour, and the couple will be eternally grateful.

Laura went for a routine MRI Scan just days after the couple’s baby Paddy was born, and it revealed she had an incurable brain tumour. Laura’s cancer was malignant, according to a neurosurgeon, and she only had months to live.

“The neurologist told us it was inoperable, and you have a timeline,” she told the Sunday Times. “At the time, we said we didn’t want to know how long.” Paddy was four weeks old, and I was informed that I would not live to see my baby turn a year old.”

Following Laura’s prognosis, the Hollywood actor called the couple on FaceTime and assisted them in obtaining a second opinion from a top US neurosurgeon. “No word of a lie, I was planning my funeral as I was doing those night feeds,” she went on to say.

“I was sobbing quietly. It was a very bad period. It’s a living nightmare. It was a pretty dark period. “A woman is severely hormonally all over the place in the first few months after giving birth, let alone having this landed on me.”

The second neurosurgeon was considerably more hopeful about Laura’s possibilities, and following a biopsy, the pair were relieved to learn six weeks later that the cancer was benign and that the previous diagnosis had been incorrect.

“Emotionally, it was just a roller coaster,” she went on to say. “At first, I was in shock and astonishment. I was in such a sensitive state that I felt I should be happy.

Laura’s health is still being meticulously examined, and the same neurosurgeon Reynolds recommended has been doing so, while the couple’s story was included in the Disney+ docuseries Welcome To Wrexham. “They are such normal people and there is not a chance that they would do this for publicity,” she said.

“They don’t require it. “I remember telling Ryan, ‘I can’t thank you enough,’ and he replied, ‘People have helped me too.'”
