Luke Leahy, the former captain of Shrewsbury Town, received a yellow card during Wycombe’s midweek match against Bradford City for an odd reason.
In the summer, Leahy moved from Salop to join the men in Adams Park.
On Wednesday night, he played a part in Wanderers’ 1-0 triumph over Bradford City in their Bristol Street Motors Trophy semi-final.
However, Leahy received a yellow card five minutes before regular time ended, leaving many puzzled as to why.
Leahy seized the ball and, in violation of newly implemented rules earlier in the season, wiped it with a steward’s coat.
According to the rules, wiping the ball with a material or drying cloth before a throw-in is prohibited since it is thought to provide one team an unfair advantage.
