“We certainly deserve better than what we got but that’s sometimes how football goes they cried*

GRHAM After his City team’s dramatic loss to Wycombe in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy semifinals, Alexander expressed his “devastation” for his squad.

In a match that the Bantams had controlled, substitute Matt Butcher’s strike in additional time crushed hearts at Valley Parade.

Alexander said, “It’s a cruel sport sometimes, and nothing is crueller than conceding a last-minute winner when you’ve been so on top in a cup semi-final.” For us, it was a fatal blow.

“We definitely deserve better than what we received, but that’s the nature of football sometimes.”

A lack of Andy Cook due to suspension meant that City had several opportunities against the League One team. However, they were unable to get past Wycombe custodian Max Stryjek.

“I know it’s something that has hurt us in previous games, definitely not in the last two or three,” Alexander continued.

However, you have to give the Wycombe custodian and defenders a lot of credit because they produced some outstanding saves and a few really nice blocks.

We could have been a little more clinical in a few other cases, in my opinion. However, that would be slicing and dicing a performance that was nothing short of extraordinary.

“I’m heartbroken for the players and was incredibly proud of them.

Being able to participate in a Wembley Cup final, whether as a player or spectator, is an amazing experience. Unfortunately, it was taken from us at the last second.

The match appeared to be headed to a penalty shootout as Butcher’s attempt beat Colin Doyle after deflecting off Jon Tomkinson’s leg. Wycombe only managed to get two shots on goal.

When the visitors scored against the run of play, Alexander was already considering who would take City’s spot-kicks.
