Wycombe Wanderers overtake Birmingham city to sign Goal-Scoring Star

According to sources who spoke to Football Insider, League One leaders Wycombe Wanderers are ready to sign non-league sensation Ryan Cole after he showed promise during his trial.

Cole has been on trial at Wycombe for the past two weeks after attracting attention at Newmarket Town, an Isthmian League North Division team, for the previous 18 months.

Numerous EFL teams have expressed interest in the 19-year-old, who can play in midfield or left back, but he has decided to join Wanderers.

Cole impressed Chairboys manager Matt Bloomfield enough during his trial period at Wycombe to earn a professional contract at Adams Park.

This season, the young player has made 23 appearances for Newmarket in all competitions, scoring six goals.

His efforts helped the team advance to the eighth division in the 2023–24 season, earning him the title of Young Player of the Year.

Cole notched 10 goals from his 42 appearances last term to put him on the radar of EFL clubs.

The left-footed teenager has been with Newmarket for more than a decade and broke into the senior side as a 16-year-old.

Wycombe currently sit top of League One with a two-point lead over free-spending Birmingham, who have played a game less than the Chairboys.

They have won each of their last eight games across all competitions as they bid to return to the Championship after their relegation from the second tier in 2021.

Last season, Bloomfield’s team advanced to the EFL Trophy final and finished tenth in League One.

The Buckinghamshire team’s next game is on Saturday, November 23, against Lincoln City.

In other news, an EFL star is leaving Wolves for a “bigger club.”
