The pressure on Wycombe manager Matt Bloomfield has decreased after their much-needed victory over struggling Cheltenham Town; however, Wanderers now have four straight games against teams vying for promotion, beginning on Saturday, February 10, when Peterborough United visits Adams Park.

The Chairboys’ triumph at Cheltenham last week was just their second three-point haul in the previous eighteen league games, and they are still dangerously near the relegation zone.

They have the hardest run-in of all the teams surrounding them, with games against the current top eight clubs before the season ends. They are fourteen points short of the average total (48) needed to avoid the drop in League One.

They likely need to win at least four of their final seventeen league games to stay safe, as they are only four points above the relegation spots.

When Bloomfield’s team visited Peterborough in October of last year, they put on one of their best performances of the year.

Even Posh manager Darren Ferguson conceded that Wanderers should have won despite the game ending in a 2-2 draw.

Wycombe defeated Peterborough both at home and away in the previous season, scoring six goals and giving up just one. They also have a better head-to-head record against their rivals, who haven’t prevailed in a league game at Adams Park in more than 20 years.

Posh are currently leading League One in scoring despite the absence of prolific striker Jonson Clarke-Harris, who has been frozen out after turning down big-money moves to Coventry City and Charlton Athletic. Games between the clubs are typically high-scoring affairs.

Ephron Mason-Clark leads the team in goals scored with ten, including the goal he scored against Wanderers in October when he also scored an own goal. He was sold to Coventry last month but is loaned back to the team until the end of the season.

Despite conceding two own goals and having a player sent off during their unexpected midweek loss to Exeter City, Posh are still in fourth place in the table, just three points outside of the automatic promotion spots.
