Person rushed to hospital after car-flip crash in Eaglescliffe sparks 10-hour road closure
One person was rushed to hospital following a serious car-flip crash in Eaglescliffe.
Early on in the morning, there was a collision between the Witham Avenue and Station Road intersections, resulting in the dispatch of police and paramedics to Yarm Road. Dramatic photos from the scene show one car on its side, leaning against a bent lamppost. The crash is thought to have involved just one vehicle, a white Mercedes.
Police blocked off the road for about ten hours, and while drivers were being rerouted around the scene, collision investigation work continued until late morning. Since then, the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) has confirmed that one patient was sent to Middlesbrough’s James Cook University Hospital for additional care.
‘Bumper to bumper’
One walker described the traffic situation as “bumper to bumper” on nearby roads in Eaglescliffe this morning. The road closures meant that motorists were diverted down Witham Avenue, onto Dunottar Avenue and Swinburne Road, and then up Victoria Road to reach the Yarm Road.
This is causing some traffic backlog – withe some motorists even deciding to turn around on Yarm Road as a result. AA Traffic News is also reporting some very slow traffic around the scene while diversions are in place.
