Four jailed over kidnapping killing of Yeovil man

Four men from Somerset have been jailed for kidnapping and killing a 39-year-old man.

On June 15, Glyn Rowlands’s body was discovered in a rural lane at Ash, close to Yeovil.

Following a trial at Bristol Crown Court, Daryl Mahoney, 19, and Ben Pamplin, 23, were found guilty of manslaughter and David Rose, 23, of murder.

While Mahoney had entered a guilty plea to the charge of kidnapping, Rose, Pamplin, and Joshua Hann, 22, were found guilty.

The court heard that Mr. Rowlands and Mahoney had a falling out over his alleged theft of a substantial quantity of gold from his family.

“On the 3 December 2023, Glyn Rowlands was lured to his death using a calculated, well-organized plan,” stated Det Insp Ed Heath of the Avon and Somerset Police.

“The kidnap was a premeditated act by David Rose, Daryl Mahoney, Ben Pamplin and Joshua Hann, and came when Glyn was at a particularly vulnerable moment of his life.

“Once abducted in Yeovil he underwent a sustained, brutal and degrading assault at a number of locations leading ultimately to his death in a quiet country lane in the village of Ash on the outskirts of the town.”

‘Isolated incident’

Rose, of Lyde Road, Yeovil, was given consecutive life sentences for murder and six-year sentences for kidnapping.

Mahoney, of Chilthorne Domer, Yeovil, was sentenced to nine years in a juvenile detention facility for manslaughter and an additional four years for kidnapping.

Pamplin, of Holywell, East Coker, received concurrent sentences of six years for kidnapping and eleven years for manslaughter.

Hann, of Flax Way, Yeovil, was incarcerated for four years as a juvenile offender due to kidnapping.

“I would like to thank those Yeovil area witnesses who came forward to the police and assisted us from an early stage in the inquiry,” said Detective Inspector Heath.

If they hadn’t cooperated and been willing to assist, the convictions would havebeen extremely difficult to achieve.

“This was thankfully an isolated incident.”
