Road closure after fatal collision as man dies in Yeovil

A MAN in his 20s has died after a crash between two cars and a lorry on the A37.

The three cars crashed on Tuesday, july 30, at approximately 5:42 a.m. on A37 Long Ash Lane, north of Dorchester.

The vehicles involved in the collision were a MAN heavy goods van, a grey Volvo XC90, and a black Honda Civic.

When emergency personnel arrived, the twentysomething local driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the spot. His family has been notified.

The man from Somerset, who was driving the Volvo, was brought to the hospital with minor injuries. He was in his 50s.
Monday morning, police, paramedics, and two fire companies were among the many emergency personnel who hurried to the incident site.

To enable the emergency services to attend to the incident and conduct a scene investigation, road closures were implemented.

Traffic between Dorchester and Yeovil was diverted on Tuesday  for the majority of the day due to the road’s closure.
Following the deadly road traffic collision, police are pleading with witnesses or anyone with pertinent dashcam evidence to come forward.

“Our thoughts are very much with the family of the man who sadly died in this collision at what must be an extremely difficult time for them,” stated Roads Policing Team Sergeant Richard Stroud.

“It is important that we establish the full circumstances of what happened and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision, or the manner of driving of the vehicles involved prior to it, to please contact us.

“I would also like to hear from any motorists who were in the area and captured any relevant dashcam footage.

“Finally, I appreciate this collision led to the closure of a major road for some time, but this was absolutely necessary to enable the emergency services to safely respond to the incident and for a thorough examination of the scene to be conducted.”
