Following the death of a newborn in Yeovil earlier this week, TWO individuals have been charged.
Yesterday evening (June 8), Daniel Gunter, 25, and Sophie Staddon, 20, who do not have a definite residence, were charged with murder and causing or permitting the death of a child.
The charge comes after the death of Brendon Staddon, a two-week-old, on Tuesday,at Yeovil District Hospital at approximately five in the morning.
The baby was admitted to the hospital, and workers there called the police. Not long later, the Major Crime Investigation Team opened an investigation.
“This is a particularly tragic case in which a very young baby has died, and our thoughts are with Brendon’s loved ones during this time,” stated Senior Investigating Officer DI Brendon Staddon
“This week, we have been conducting inquiries at the hospital, and we are appreciative of the support from the Somerset NHS Foundation Trust and its personnel that has allowed us to accomplish this.”
Both Gunter and Staddon are still being held by the police and are scheduled to appear at Taunton Magistrates’ Court today morning, June 9.
