After a successful loan spell in the 2023/24 campaign, Hinshelwood opened talks to bring Hunt back to York on permanent terms, seeing the midfielder as a key part of the puzzle.
Hunt was unveiled in the new York home strip for the 2024/25 season last month, and is expected to play a key part in Hinshelwood’s plans for the coming campaign.
Hinshelwood admitted that Hunt fits the profile of the sort of player he is eager to bring in, telling the Press: “You’d have to ask Hunty but he seemed relatively eager, we had a discussion early after the season finished and he was an integral player for us over the last sort of seven games.
“We really like his style of play and he’s a good technician, he’s one that will go from strength to strength.
“We talk about these good young players with huge potential, and he is definitely one of them, from our point of view it was a really easy [decision], he likes how we work and how we play.
“We want to be a team that dominates the ball more than the opposition, and we have technical players that can do that, so there are less corners and less long throws for us to worry about.
“At the same time, we know that it’s a big weapon at this level and we have to be prepared for it.”
Hinshelwood also believes that the impact of previously working with Hunt to be a big positive, with the City boss hoping that Hunt can act as an example on the training pitch of what he expects.
We are also aware of Hunty because we had worked with him briefly and managed to get him to sign a permanent contract.
“It does help because I know them a little better on a personal level. They understand my expectations and what I demand from them when it comes to training.”
