Shocking; injury compounds Leeds United misery.

The Leeds United left-back was taken off on a stretcher in the closing moments of the 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa

Leeds United’s injury curse struck again at the end of their dire 3-0 Elland Road defeat to Aston Villa on Thursday evening when Junior Firpo was taken off on a stretcher.

New head coach Jesse Marsch had an Elland Road debut to forget as he saw his side fall to a sixth consecutive defeat that means they stay just two places and two points above the relegation zone, having played more matches than the two sides below them.Philippe Coutinho netted a first-half opener with a deflected shot, before Matty Cash doubled the visitors lead on 65 minutes. A stunning finish from Calum Chambers on 73 minutes sealed the win, with Leeds’ misery compounded by Firpo’s concerning late injury.

The left-back went down after a challenge from Emi Buendia, injuring his left leg. He would receive lengthy treatment, with his leg being put in his brace, while oxygen was administered before he was taken off on a stretcher.

Marsch was only able to give a brief up following the match when he spoke on Prime Video.

“We don’t yet but it’s probably something on the inside of his knee like an MCL so we’ll evaluate that and see where’s he at,” he said.

“I would guess it keeps him out for a while,” he later added in his post-match press conference.

Leeds are next in action on Sunday, when they face a huge match against fellow relegation battlers Norwich City.
