Hearts and Hibs are both happy that they have advanced to the Scottish League Cup final four. While the Jambos defeated Kilmarnock 2-1 at Rugby Park to set up their semi-final meeting with Rangers, Hibs defeated St. Mirren 4-2 at Easter Road to go to a matchup with Aberdeen.
The two clubs will now turn their attention back to the Scottish Premiership as Hibs welcome Dundee to Leith and Hearts travel to Ross County after the semi-finals, which will take place in early November. Ex-Celtic skipper stays clear of Parkhead return
According to his former manager Gordon Strachan, won’t go back to the “comfort blanket” of a position at Celtic (Daily Record). The former Celtic captain resigned from his position as Fleetwood Town manager earlier this month, but it appeared he would soon be returning to Parkhead to work with Brendan Rodgers. Brown was acquired by Strachan from Hibs in 2007, but the Scottish manager thinks the former midfielder won’t return unless he can earn the position as a manager in his own right.
Speaking to the Daily Record, Strachan said: “Yes, I’m sure there would be a place for him at Celtic if he wanted one. But would he really want to be at a place based upon past history? Because you can sniff that. You always want to go back on merit and that’s the way he’ll be thinking. He doesn’t want to see Celtic as some sort of comfort blanket, knowing he could always go back there into some sort of role
.”Reo Hatate, a Japanese midfielder, has reportedly been close to agreeing to a new contract, but Brendan Rodgers has confessed he doesn’t know when that will happen (Football Scotland).
Hatate’s representatives have been in contact with Celtic for a number of weeks, and it was initially assumed that the midfielder would make a decision about his future before the summer transfer market closed. Though reports earlier this week suggested the Japanese international was now close to signing a contract, the deadline day passed and it appears it will still be some time before negotiations are officially finalized.
Speaking ahead of the Hoops trip to Motherwell this weekend, Rodgers was asked if an agreement was close to which he replied: “I’ll speak to Michael (Nicholson), but in fairness to the club, the club have been reaching out to the agent for quite some time. But where it’s at, I don’t know at this point.”
