Athletic Bilbao’ winger accept to join Brighton after rejecting liverpool and Man united

Brighton have reportedly entered the chase to sign Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams.

The 21-year-old has become one of the most prized talents in La Liga due to his performances for the Basque club since making his first team debut in April of 2021.

Spain boss Luis Enrique handed Williams a call up the following year, and he has since amassed ten caps for La Roja, including all four of Spain’s matches at the 2022 World Cup, coming on as a substitute as they were dumped out of the competition by Morocco in the Round of 16.

Williams has courted attention from a number of Premier League clubs including Aston Villa, who looked set to sign him in January after activating his £45m release clause.

Fichajes.com said that Brighton have entered the fight to sign Williams to a Premier League contract, with Liverpool and Manchester United also keeping an eye on the winger.

Williams’ contract at the San Mames Stadium has just one year left on it, so the team may try to make some money off of the graduate of their program to keep him from departing on the open market.

If Williams’ contract is set to expire in the summer, Barcelona is apparently interested in signing him. However, Bilbao are reportedly willing to let Williams depart for a bargain price of £26 million if a team approaches them in the January transfer window.

Williams is now out with an injury, but before being hurt, he had a productive start to the season, contributing four assists in his first four games for the Basques.
