Bristol scouting mission bears fruit with signing of star

A week after placing sixth at the World Rugby U20 Championship, the Bristol Bears have confirmed the acquisition of Argentina U20 fullback Benjamin Elizalde.

The 19-year-old will leave Deportiva Francesa and arrive at Ashton Gate.
According to RugbyPass, Bristol dispatched spies to the World Championship in South Africa. It seems that the effort has already paid off, as Pat Lam, the director of rugby at Bristol, called the Argentine player “one of the most exciting young talents in the world game.”

Elizalde, who can play in both the midfield and the back three, will contribute to improving Bristol’s kicking options for the upcoming campaign.

With Piers O’Conor and Virimi Vakatawa leaving the club at the end of last season, Elizalde will provide options in the back line for Lam.

After signing, the adolescent remarked, “I am really happy to have signed with Bristol and for the opportunity they have given me.”

“I can learn a lot from the great players at this very prestigious club.” I’m excited to work out with the group and compete for a spot with an incredible group of teammates.

“Benjamin is one of the most exciting young talents in the world game and I’m really pleased to bring him into the Bears environment,” said Pat Lam, director of rugby.

“His performances for Argentina at the Junior World Cup demonstrated his obvious talent, and I think the Bears’ environment will provide him with the opportunity to further develop his potential.”

We have been keeping a careful eye on Benjamin for some time, and we are aware of how highly esteemed Felipe Contepomi and the Argentina coaching staff think of him. Benjamin is a wonderful fit for the Bears Way thanks to his versatile skill set, flexibility to play throughout the backline, and offensive threat.
