Huddersfield Town are on the hunt for a new boss after deciding to part ways with Darren Moore earlier this week. The 49-year-old came in as Neil Warnock’s replacement and looked to be a solid appointment, but ultimately struggled in his 23 games, winning just three.
A manager capable of guiding the Terriers out of the Championship relegation zone is desperately needed. Despite a convincing victory against 23rd-place Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon, they remain in 21st place and are only three points ahead of QPR.
Huddersfield Town has been connected to a new name as the upcoming week draws near.
Reporter Nixon claims that the club has started talking to Michael Duff about taking over as the new manager of John Smith’s Stadium. Paul Heckingbottom, another contender, has reportedly been approached but is content to wait for other opportunities. He is rumoured to “seem keen” on the post as well.
A second chance for Duff
Following successful periods at Barnsley and Cheltenham Town, Duff was given the opportunity to play in the Championship with Swansea City. The 46-year-old was fired at the beginning of December, marking the end of a difficult tenure in South Wales.
But now that Huddersfield Town has started to negotiate, it appears the manager may have another opportunity to succeed in the lower division. Many predicted that he would win the Championship because of his strong play in Leagues One and Two, but his first attempt didn’t go as planned.
Duff will therefore undoubtedly be drawn to the opportunity to return to the dugout as soon as possible at the same level. However, he has a difficult task ahead of him because Huddersfield is sitting in a dangerous spot in the Championship table.
