Kevin Nagle frustrations statement after 1-1 draw

Kevin Nagle plans to give Huddersfield Town’s players a piece of his mind this week after backing up his latest post-match social media outburst by once more backing manager Darren Moore, albeit not in the most fulsome way.

Nagle’s “NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!” tweet shortly after seeing the Terriers’ 1-1 home draw with Plymouth Argyle echoed Moore’s predecessor Neil Warnock’s criticism of him shortly before leaving the club.

Moore adopted a very different approach, stating that he appreciates his chairman’s passion.

The American is in West Yorkshire for a month to see the January transfer window up close, and he has posted an online video diary virtually every day thus far. Saturday’s permitted him to elaborate on his post-match thoughts.

Asked about his tweet, he said: “It’s a fact. I wanted to win today. I expected to win.

“Even though I know we weren’t at full strength (and) we played better than we could have – we had possession of the ball for much of the game – we didn’t score at least two goals to win. “We should’ve.”

When asked about speculation that his post on X, now known as Twitter, was an indication that Moore will be fired after 21 games in charge and three wins, he responded: “Not going to happen right now, obviously.”

“We need to shore up the squad. We have a lot of injuries, and we’re bringing some players back – I believe we’ll have more against Blackburn – but we need to give everyone some more time.

“I’m not thrilled with how we played, and I know all of our Town fans are unhappy right now. We’ll be here for another three weeks, and it will be relentless; we’ll also look for new signings.

“When we hired Darren, we promised to offer him players who would play the sort of football he desired; that is the type of football we want and, I believe, the fans want: attack-oriented. We simply don’t have those players. “We are getting more.”

Huddersfield dominated the game against unambitious opponents, taking the lead against the run of play thanks to Morgan Whittaker. Josh Koroma cancelled that out before half-time, but Nagle was dissatisfied with his side, who missed January signing Bojan Radulovic as a precaution A muscle tweak on the training ground did not result in more possession.

“We need some players to step up,” said Nagle, adding the same applied to him and everyone else at the club.

“I detest seeing that ball slide backwards. We’re having dinner with the guys next week, and I’ll talk to them about it.

“I dislike passing backwards because it is a cop-out. I know our team can do better than that.”

Moore talked to the media before the chairman following the game, and he was unaware of the tweet until then.

“Honestly, I really don’t mind,” he said. “Everything he tweets I support because the chairman demonstrates passion and devotion.

“The performance was good but we feel it was two points dropped and I think we’re all in agreement on the balance of play and the initiative.”This is an excellent bunch of players. They just need to keep going.
