Denive Balmforth set sights on long-term future after signing new Hull FC deal

Balmforth has signed a new deal with Hull FC, but he already has an eye on his long-term future.

Denive Balmforth says it was a ‘no brainier’ to re-sign for Hull FC ahead of what he believes is an ‘exiting’ time for the club. As exclusively reported by Hull Live on Wednesday, the young hooker has signed a new one-year contract with the Black and Whites, with the goal of earning a longer team deal next season.

Joining the likes of Logan Moy, Jack Charles, Lewis Martin, and Davy Litten in signing new deals, Balmforth is determined to keep improving alongside a crop of promising young talent at Hull, with the club also activating options for Zach Jebson, Matty Laidlaw, and Harvey Barron. The 20-year-old will now move into a fourth season at the club, having signed from Warrington Wolves in 2022.

A few months after joining the club’s youth and reserve teams, Balmforth scored a try on his Super League debut against Toulouse Olympique. He has since made eight appearances in the first squad, four of which have come this year. After playing on loan at Newcastle Thunder last year, the youthful dummy half impressed in his last two Premier League games, scoring a try in each. He will now spend the 2025 season at the club.

He has made 35 first-grade appearances, scoring 10 tries, and has also participated in one game on loan for the Swinton Lions this season.

“It’s a really exciting time to be involved with the club, with plenty of new faces coming in and some really exciting young players committing their future here,” Balmforth remarked in reference to his new contract. It was obvious to me to sign the contract as soon as the negotiations began.

“Although I know I still have a long way to go, I’m looking forward to the journey and creating some unforgettable memories with this amazing club.”

Balmforth’s new contract, according to Richie Myler, is a reward for his diligence and will in the last few weeks, both on the practice field and during games. “Denive has earned this contract through his own hard work and determination on both the training pitch and when he’s gotten his playing opportunities with the first-team this season,” the club’s director of rugby continued.

It’s evident that he has seized his opportunities wholeheartedly. He continues to grow into an intriguing young hooker, and we are happy to have him back in our camp for the upcoming season.

“This is exactly the kind of mindset we want to inculcate in our young players—the fact he has backed himself by just seeking to sign a one-year contract with the hope of earning an even greater contract with the club later on.”
