Hull FC prop Herman Ese’ese facing hefty suspension after ‘Verbal Abuse’ charge

Hull FC prop Herman Ese’ese is faced with the possibility of a hefty suspension after being handed a Grade F charge for ‘Verbal Abuse’ by the RFL’s Match Review Panel.

The front row forward has been handed the charge after Thursday’s MRP meeting, with the governing body considering fresh evidence submitted by London Broncos after one of their players accused Ese’ese of verbally abusing them in the first half of the Broncos vs Hull game in Wimbledon earlier this month.

Ese’ese’s charge read: “Law 15.1(f): Verbal abuse based on race, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, national or ethnic origin or any other form of Unacceptable Language and/or Behaviour.” The player will now face an independent tribunal on Tuesday evening (May 28). If found guilty, he could face a minimum suspension of SIX matches.

Ese’ese, nevertheless, is free to play at Castleford Tigers this Friday night. Since returning from a two-game suspension following the derby opener, Ese’ese has been an ever-present for Hull. This is because his hearing is scheduled on Tuesday, and all mid-week MRP verdicts—which include all lower league and grade disciplinary charges—usually follow this schedule.

After Castleford, Hull’s next six games are at home against Leeds Rhinos, away against Warrington Wolves, home against Salford Red Devils, home against Hull KR, and home against Wigan Warriors.

At this point, it’s unclear how Ese’ese will make her case.

Another youngster from Hull FC’s academy, Owen Haldenby, was charged with Grade E Head Contact during the team’s victory over Bradford Bulls. As a result, he received a four-game suspension. Earlier this week, the prop forward entered a guilty plea before an impartial tribunal.
