Leeds United news as Whites star serves up

Catch up on the latest Leeds United headlines as Whites stars get underway in the international break

Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Thursday, October 12.

Daniel James claims assist brace in Wales friendly win

Leeds United winger Daniel James came off the bench to provide two assists for Wales as they cantered past Gibraltar in a friendly clash last night. James was named on the bench for the clash in Wrexham, but got the nod on 15 minutes when Wes Burns was forced off with an injury.

The 25-year-old wasted little time in marking a mark as he was on hand to assist goals from Nathan Broadhead and Kieffer Moore before half-time, with the Red Dragons taking a 4-0 lead into the break. No second goals would follow, but James’ performance off the bench for a young Wales side was warmly received.

Our colleagues at Wales Online would give James an eight out of ten grade in their player ratings, reporting that: ‘Two assists off the bench. A good night’.

Next up for Wales is a home match against Croatia in a Euro 2024 qualifier on Sunday, in which James’ club team-mates Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu will be hoping to return to the starting XI.Leeds United winger Daniel James came off the bench for Wales to serve up two assists in the win over Gibraltar on Wednesday eveningLeeds United snub sums up 49ers Enterprises’s work ahead and £1m-plus investment

Elland Road was one of eight venues selected for Euro 96, the last major football tournament staged exclusively in England. Leeds United’s home was conspicuous by its absence from the Euro 2028 announcement made yesterday as 10 stadiums made the grade across the United Kingdom.

That, in a nutshell, sums up the work ahead for 49ers Enterprises in LS11. There was little surprise with the omission of United’s home from the 10 selected and nobody should be shaking their fist at the club for missing an opportunity, but it’s a neat summation on where the stadium is at and where it needs to be.

While the 1996 competition was confined to England, 2028 will take in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland too. Those nations have to be represented and then those in England must be well spread geographically.

Farke’s clamped down on ‘over-emotional’ behaviour not washing with Leeds United

Emotional managers have their place in some dressing rooms, but Daniel Farke could see that was a long way from what his Leeds United side needed at the weekend. The Whites had gone into the dressing room at half-time only level with Bristol City after conceding a sloppy equaliser off a set-piece on the stroke of the break.

It would have been understandable if Farke had gone into the changing room with a furious anger on display, kicking anything inanimate in sight. And yet, the German did not feel that was what the players, who knew full well how they had let themselves down, needed.

“I needed first to calm myself down because I was so annoyed we didn’t bury this game and I know how difficult it then is if you get such a sucker punch to go back in the second half and to win this game,” he said.
