Ross McCormack has insisted that Leeds United’s squad depth means that they should be confident of closing the gap with the top two over the course of the season.
Leeds got back to winning ways on Wednesday night when they beat strugglers Queens Park Rangers 1-0 at Elland Road.
The Whites have won back-to-back home league wins for the first time since August last year when they were in the Premier League.
Leeds have moved up to sixth in the Championship standings and are nine points behind the top two, the automatic promotion spots.
However, McCormack believes Leeds should have reasonable confidence that over the course of the season they have the ability to gun down the top two and close the gap.
The former Leeds star stressed that the quality and the depth of the Leeds squad should provide them with confidence.
McCormack said on BBC Radio Leeds when asked if he believes the Whites can close the gap with the top two: “I’d be very surprised if they didn’t also believe that.

“They have got a lot of quality and a lot of depth as well.
“I think it shows with the arguments we are having over whether this player should come out and that player should go in.
“If you take someone out and bring someone in there is not a huge drop in quality.
“I think they should be definitely confident that they can do it.”
Leeds have another home game lined up on Saturday when they will host Bristol City at Elland Road.
