Joe Donnohue reports that Darko Gyabi, a star midfielder for Leeds United, had surgery on his groyne during the March international break, ending his season.
According to a journalist for the Yorkshire Evening Post, the 20-year-old’s temporary switch to Plymouth Argyle was terminated after his surgery on Wednesday, March 27, after he spent the second half of the season on loan.
Returning to Thorp Arch, Gyabi will be unable to participate in any more Whites or Plymouth Championship campaigns while he completes his recovery with Daniel Farke’s team at Elland Road.
Will Pascal Struijk and Darko Gyabi play for Leeds United this season?
Gyabi hasn’t played for Leeds United during the second half of the season, but it is still disappointing to see a young player’s career end so quickly, especially in light of his recent loan performances.
The 20-year-old was unable to make an impression during the first half of the season, but in his short stay at Home Park, he demonstrated that he is more than capable of making an impression in the Championship, even though he isn’t currently at the top of the standings.
At Elland Road, Struijk’s absence will be felt more immediately, but Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu’s strong play in recent months has shown that the Whites can win even without the Dutchman.
With any luck, both players will fully recover and return to Farke’s team in time for the preseason. The Whites’ only priority up to that point must be finishing the season strong in order to return to the Premier League right away.
