LEIGH LEOPARDS Adrian Lam responds to Robert McHugh’s “unacceptable” performance of Leigh LeopardsJune 22, 2024

As the Leigh Leopards traveled to Headingley to play the Leeds Rhinos, they more than fulfilled their role in an evening of moving tributes to Rob Burrow. In the end, Leeds prevailed 18–10, largely because of a brilliant performance from Brodie Croft.

The Rhinos jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first half thanks to two outstanding tries by Croft. The Rhinos were pushed very close by the Leopards in the second half, but Leeds’ defense held strong thanks to some outstanding tackles that prevented the Leopards from crossing the line.

The players and supporters of Leigh did a great job paying tribute to Burrow.

“I yelled at the team at half-time there and we came out a completely different side in that second half. That’s the club and team we need to be moving forward. So obviously frustrated with that but that will make us better with what’s left of the season.

The result leaves Leigh with an uphill struggle to make the playoffs, they are five points off the play-off spots, with the Catalans Dragons still to play.

Even though Lam thought they played an unsatisfactory first half, he was pleased with their better second half effort, which almost saw them tie the game. Lam thinks Leigh’s attempt to rejoin the game shown a great deal of bravery and tenacity.

It’s crucial that we pay attention to both the first forty minutes and tonight. It’s not acceptable, and I find it disappointing. I suppose I should be thankful for the bravery and tenacity we displayed in the second half to attempt to tie the game.

As they attempt to claw their way back into the playoff race, Lam also stated that Leigh will be welcoming back a number of important players in the upcoming weeks.

After a week off, we’ll be happy to have guys like Robbie Mulhern, Ollie Holmes, Gaz O’Brien, and John Asiata returning for selection against Wigan. Thus, that is the additional benefit we must anticipate; all we need to do is ensure that we maintain our focus.
