The Dan Ashworth era at Newcastle United may be poised to produce its first hidden treasure.
Even though the summer transfer window has only been closed for a little over a month, there is already a lot of discussion on social media about where Newcastle United will add players next. There has already been discussion of Kalvin Phillips moving to St. James’ Park, and there has also been talk of Eddie Howe adding a younger striker or an attacking midfielder to his squad.
These are similar to the stances outlined in the summer, with the right-wing potentially needing to be strengthened. Miguel Almiron, who continues to shine in the black and white shirt, is demonstrating that last season’s improvement in form wasn’t an aberration.
The Paraguayan’s spectacular goal against PSG gave Newcastle United its first Champions League goal, and under the Magpies’ head coach, his standing has skyrocketed. There is no disputing that the team’s performance in the final third outside of Almiron appears to be a touch lacking, and the winger is nearing the end of his playing days.

Another to add to the list is Yankuba Minteh, who, while playing away from the St. James’ Park spotlight, is exceeding whatever hopes supporters had for him when he signed. The Gambian international claimed he hasn’t yet been to Newcastle, as his transfer was finalized in the Netherlands before he joined Feyenoord on loan for the current campaign.
The financing itself will assist Minteh in meeting Work Permit requirements and advance his growth as a young athlete. After a sluggish beginning at the Dutch champions, he made his Champions League debut and earned a senior international cap in such a short period of time.
It’s possible that Dan Ashworth and company already know the long-term solution to their right-wing dilemma. The Gambian has spent most of his time on the right flank for the Eredivisie team, scoring three goals and dishing out one assist in domestic play, but he also played 98 minutes as a center-forward in Feyenoord’s victory against Europe.

Despite playing fewer minutes than those he is matched to, Minteh has the 12th highest rating in the entire Eredivisie at 7.42. He is currently surpassing many seasoned internationals and guys with far more experience than he does.
Newcastle reportedly paid Odense €7 million for Minteh, making it one of the greatest deals of the previous transfer window. Of course, the move from the Eredivisie to the Premier League will be a tough test, but Minteh has already aced every one of them.
Even though it’s still early, the loan move is already proving to be a tremendous success, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Newcastle pursue similar agreements in the future Line.
