Awoniyi, Aina, Danilo – Nottingham Forest injury state of play and expected return dates

Latest Nottingham Forest news as Steve Cooper’s Reds have two-week break from Premier League action

Nottingham Forest will hope to have some of their injured players available again after the international break.

The Reds signed off for the fortnight’s hiatus with a 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace on Saturday. Ryan Yates made his comeback from a hamstring problem at Selhurst Park, while Nicolas Dominguez was fit enough to start after being a doubt due to a knock picked up against Brentford.

However, Serge Aurier was forced off at half-time in the capital and Orel Mangala seemed to be struggling with cramp late on. As the Premier League pauses for two weeks, we take a look at Forest’s injury situation as it stands.

Arsenal finally secure Nuno Tavares as first summer transferWhat we know: The defender seemed to pick up an injury in the first half against Palace. He received some treatment on the pitch and carried on until the break, but was replaced by Gonzalo Montiel for the second half. However, in what is hopefully a positive sign, he has been called up to the Ivory Coast squad.

What we know:In a big blow for the Reds, the striker faces a month on the sidelines. He suffered a groin injury during the 1-1 draw with Brentford. He suffered a similar problem last season, but it was on the opposite leg to this time around.

What has been said: “Of course it is a blow,” Cooper said. “He’s been our man up front.

“He’s out for a month. He did it in the game against Brentford.

“He’s been injured before and came back really strong, so he knows he can do it. He’ll commit to that.

“We’ll get T into recovery and rehab as quick as we can. We’ll give every help we can give him, because we know his attitude will be great as he tries to get back with us as soon as possible.”

Nuno Tavares

Injury: Groin.

What we know: On his first start for Forest, the full-back was forced off 40 minutes into the defeat at Manchester City. He seemed to tweak something when making a forward run, and although he tried to continue after receiving treatment he eventually limped off.

What has been said:“I don’t think we’ll see Nuno until after the international break,” Cooper said last week. He had previously said the injury was not a “serious” one.

Ola AinaTransfer: Super Eagles defender, Aina set for Torino exit - Daily Post NigeriaInjury: Muscle.

What we know: The full-back has made a terrific start to his Forest career and has been a regular starter. However, he has missed the past two games and has been replaced in the Nigeria squad for their upcoming matches.

What has been said: “We’ll see on Ola,” Cooper said ahead of the Palace clash. He had previously explained both Aina and Tavares missed the Brentford game with “muscle injuries”.
