Not convinced at all” – Huddersfield Town view given as Port Vale eye Darren Moore*

This could be a vital insight for whoever appoints Moore next

Moore’s departure from Huddersfield was announced on January 29, 2024. Neil Warnock, who had led the team to safety the season before, was replaced by him, but the former Sheffield Wednesday manager’s tenure with the Terriers wasn’t as successful.

Moore only achieved three victories in his 23 games with the team across all competitions; the other nine games were losses and eleven draws. The team’s distance from the drop zone has decreased from three to two points, but they are still in the same league position as they were on the 21st when the 48-year-old left.

Although Huddersfield is still seeking for a new manager, it appears that their previous boss could be the Huddersfield Town supporter Graeme Rayner of FLW has stated that Vale should proceed with caution when selecting the player who helped the Owls advance to the Championship the previous year.
It would be a stretch to suggest that he was working with a mid-table team at Huddersfield. It should come as no surprise that a team that was on the verge of relegation the previous season and had little recruiting at the beginning of this one is facing the same opponent. At Hillsbrough, though, he had more than enough tools at his disposal.

According to Capology, the Owls’ combined weekly salary was three times greater than Plymouth Argyle’s, and they emerged victorious in the league. They were in the play-offs, but they had a fantastic opportunity to win the league or at least have his team promoted automatically.

Of course, the latter one ended with a promotion, but from the side he had at his disposal, that was arguably the least that could have been expected.

The tenacity displayed by Moore’s players during the previous season’s playoffs is one aspect of this appointment that may offer supporters of Vale some optimism. Any relegation survivor must possess this commitment and desire to function as a team. However, they most definitely wouldn’t be assigning a relegation expert with all the insider knowledge to save them from this predicament.

If it works out, it’s a long-term appointment, but right now in the season, the Valiants could be better off with a temporary solution.
