Port Vale hire Darren Moore before Reading FC meeting

Port Vale have hired former West Brom manager Darren Moore on a five-and-a-half-year deal just seven days before their trip to Reading.

The 49-year-old former centre back left Yorkshire in January and spent time with Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town over the past 12 months.

Moore received three promotions as a player, including a League One promotion with the Owls in the previous campaign.

“After speaking with Carol, Dave, and the club’s board, it’s evident that Port Vale FC and I are perfectly aligned with our long-term aspirations both on and off the pitch,” stated the newly appointed first team manager of Port Vale FC.

“We want to finish this season in League One, and our immediate goal is to do that while laying the groundwork for developing a distinct football identity.”

“The deal represents a long-term commitment from Port Vale FC and me. It also serves as a symbol of our shared long-term goals, which the players, staff, supporters, and I are all working towards together.

“I am incredibly happy to be here and I can’t wait to get started.”

Reading will host the Valliants on Tuesday, taking the place of previous Royals coach Andy Crosby, who was fired more than a week ago.

This will be the two teams’ second meeting in Berkshire; the first was called off in the sixteenth minute due to anti-Dai Yongge demonstrations from the crowd.
