Reading youngster released by Premier League club

Shandon Baptiste, a Reading youngster, is now available on the free transfer market after being released by Premier League side Brentford.

Baptise, 26, was up in Tilehurst, attended Denefield School, and spent eight years with the Royals minor teams.

The midfielder, who was released a decade ago for being thought ‘too short’, rose through the ranks at Oxford United before joining Brentford in 2020.

Baptiste, who has made 78 appearances for the Bees despite a slew of ailments over the last four and a half years in West London, is leaving.

Phil Giles, Director of Football, stated, “We signed Shandon when we were in the Championship, with the goal of achieving promotion to the Premier League.”

“Shandon and Brentford accomplished it together, and he has gone on to feature in some big moments for us as a Premier League player over the previous three seasons.

“In truth, I’m sure Shandon would want to be involved on the pitch more than he has been, which is why we feel it’s the right time to let him become a regular and key player at another club.”
