Darren Witcoop on X claims that Jordan Williams, who is leaving Barnsley, and Louie Sibley of Derby County have been “mentioned” as possible targets for Rotherham United this summer.
Under Steve Evans’ direction, Rotherham United hopes to return straight from League One the following season and is eager to add players to the team. After leaving Portsmouth and Peterborough United, respectively, they have already signed seasoned defender Joe Rafferty and prolific striker Jonson Clarke-Harris.
The Millers are currently working hard to add more talent to their ranks over the next several months after being relegated with a whimper from the Championship in 24th place during the previous campaign.
Reporter Witcoop reported on X that Sibley and Williams, along with midfielder George Byers and full-back Reece James, who both left Sheffield Wednesday, might be two players on their radar in the most recent transfer update pertaining to the South Yorkshire team.
Rotherham United transfer plans
Sibley, 22, is scheduled to become a free agent as things stand when his contract with Derby County expires at the end of the next month.
The Rams, under Paul Warne, promoted the adaptable left-handed player from the third level, and as stated on their current retained list, they have extended an offer to him for a new contract.
Throughout his entire career, he has been signed by Pride Park. He has made 173 appearances across all competitions and contributed 20 goals, six of which came in the previous season.
Williams’ time at Barnsley is up, and he will be considering his options going forward.
The Huddersfield Town academy product can sign a contract with Rotherham United for nothing when it officially becomes a free agent in late June.
Williams is currently looking for a new challenge, and if the Millers were to acquire him, he would provide their defensive unit more depth and competition.
In the previous two seasons, he assisted the Tykes in making it to the play-offs, but they were defeated by Sheffield Wednesday and subsequently Bolton Wanderers.
