Sheffield united star set to leave the club this summer

Sheffield United boss hopeful of Oli McBurnie contract resolution despite injury hammer blow

£20m man Oli McBurnie set to leave Sheffield United in the summer as things stand
Despite the devastating news that Oli McBurnie will miss the remainder of the season due to injury, Chris Wilder is optimistic that the Sheffield United captain will stay with the team past the current campaign’s conclusion. The Blades have not yet committed to a new contract for McBurnie, whose current one expires in the summer.

The striker is the club’s top scorer this season, with six goals, but will play no part in the Blades’ last four games after discovering the results of a scan on his injured groin. United have been trying to reach an agreement with their former record signing and his representatives for much of the current season but as things stand, he could walk away on a free transfer in the summer.

Although McBurnie’s recent achievements will not have gone unnoticed elsewhere, he has previously made no secret of his affection for Rangers, who had been linked with a move for him. However, he is still a vital member of the Bramall Lane team, particularly in the dressing room where he was given the captain’s armband prior to his injury and is recognised as one of Wilder’s “culture carriers.”
