Wednesday faithful share Danny Rohl confidence over £3m deal confirm

Ike Ugbo’s problems in front of goal continued on Sunday as Sheffield Wednesday lost 1-0 to arch rivals Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, making it an extremely depressing afternoon.

There was nothing between the two teams in the first half of the Steel City derby, which was the first in more than five years. Wednesday may have had the better of the first forty-five minutes.

Nevertheless, United rallied after the interval and created the game’s lone truly outstanding moment in the 50th minute, when Tyrese Campbell scored following a superbly executed set piece to secure all three points and the right to gloat locally.

The loss puts the Owls in 15th place going into the November international break, only three points above the relegation zone in what is looking to be a difficult division.

Wednesday may have been unhappy not to have provided a stronger attacking threat of their own, but they will have been quite satisfied with their performance on Sunday, especially the manner they were able to limit the hosts to few chances, considering that the Blades are currently in second place in the standings.

Ike Ugbo was one player who found it difficult to contribute at Bramall Lane, and Owls fans are growing more and more impatient with the striker as he has yet to score a league goal since moving to Hillsborough for £3 million.

Danny Rohl makes confident Ike Ugbo claim

Ugbo joined Wednesday on loan from French team Troyes in January, and in 19 games during the second half of the previous season, he contributed seven goals and one assist to help the team survive.

Despite fierce competition from Stoke City, Birmingham City, Queens Park Rangers, and Sunderland in the summer, the Owls were able to sign the Canada international on a permanent basis in August. The transfer fee paid for him signalled a significant change in strategy from owner Dejphon Chansiri, who has been hesitant to spend in recent years.

After returning to Hillsborough on a full-time basis, Ugbo was expected to do well, but he has only scored once in 17 games this season, and that goal came in the EFL Cup victory over League Two team Grimsby Town in August.

After yet another lacklustre showing at Bramall Lane on Sunday, Ugbo was replaced in the 75th minute. However, Rohl responded forcefully when asked after the game if he was worried about the 26-year-old’s poor play.

Rohl said, “No,” to The Star. “Because I noticed that he was having an increasing number of situations in his most recent games. I believe in him and trust him, and the time will come. You can talk to me about him, about him, about him In his moment, it is a step forward. When his time comes, talking about him will be simpler.

We only had one chance today, and that was Musa (Musaba) in this particular scenario, if you add together all of our opportunities. It was more about how much we produced as a team than it was about Ike Ugbo or something similar. As you can see from the statistics, which ranged from 0.57 to 0.6 xG, neither team produced anything.
