Father and son shot dead in ‘targeted’ attacks

Three people have been arrested after a father and son were shot dead in what police say were “targeted” attacks in villages in Cambridgeshire.

Following gunshots reported in Meridian Close, Bluntisham, shortly after 21:00 BST on Wednesday, police discovered the corpse of a 32-year-old male.

A man,57, was found dead in Sutton, a nearby town, where police were called about 40 minutes later to investigate allegations of gunfire.

Three individuals are detained on suspicion of plotting a murder.

Father and son were the casualties, according to Ch Supt John Hutchinson, who spoke to the BBC.

He stated that the incident seemed to be connected to a “familial issue” and that “custody battle” was “an active line of inquiry”.

“We do not believe there is any ongoing risk to the public in Cambridgeshire,” he stated.
Early on Thursday morning, a 66-year-old man was taken into custody in the Worcester region, and a 27-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were held at a motel just outside of Cambridge.

A shotgun from a car and a white Peugeot 208 have both been found.
Anyone who saw the Peugeot on Wednesday night or who saw someone acting strangely around it is encouraged to come forward by Cambridgeshire Police, especially if they have CCTV evidence of the vehicle.

“We believe that the vehicle was circulating in the Bluntisham and Sutton areas yesterday and we need to identify what time it came into the area,” added Hutchinson.

The residences in Sutton’s Meridian Close and The Row, which are roughly six and a half miles apart, have been roped off, and the local police presence will be stepped up.

Meridian Close is a “very quiet” street, according to locals, and not the kind of place where they would anticipate something like this happening.
