Whittaker spent a successful loan season with Plymouth Argyle after his first attempt at first-team play under former Swansea manager Russell Martin was unsuccessful.
The 22-year-old has participated in every game for the Pilgrims this season. On Saturday, they will host Swansea.
Whittaker was “honest” about wanting to quit the club, according to Duff.
The striker’s reaction to the situation, despite the fact that it meant losing him, was praised by the current Swansea head coach.
