The Terriers boss won promotion with Sheffield Wednesday last year and wants to continue to turn Town’s fortunes around
Huddersfield Town manager Darren Moore says he looks back on 2023 with a “sense of satisfaction” and plans to carry the lessons learned from the previous year into 2024.
Moore guided Sheffield Wednesday to promotion from League One through the play-offs in the first half of last season before leaving by mutual consent in June.
The 49-year-old returned to management with the Terriers in September and has supervised a difficult period on the pitch thus far, with Town earning three wins in 19 outings.
Moore, who has been tasked with steering the Terriers away from relegation danger in the second half of the season, vows he will continue to give his all to steer Town in the right path.
Reflecting on 2023 on a personal level at a recent press conference, Moore said: “It’s been a year, certainly for myself, that’s been full of so many different obstacles, but one that I’ve been encouraged by, and one that I feel a sense of satisfaction.
“It’s also one that I look back on and it’ll help me grow as an individual going forward, and the experiences from 2023, I’ll certainly want to take them with me into 2024, and be present at this football club.
“For me as a manager, to manage this football club is an honour, and I’ll continue to work as hard as I can to continue to turn the fortunes of this football club around into 2024.
“I certainly look back on the year as a wonderful year, in terms of what’s going on in the year. The highs have been fantastic, we’ve worked incredibly hard to achieve those, and on the lows, there’s been a massive learning, in terms of enabling to gain the highs.
“I often say it’s in the low points where you probably learn and develop the most, and unfortunately none of us want to go through them, but it’s in those times that you learn and develop the most. It’s just the way it is.
“In all those situations, I’ve always looked upon it as an opportunity – ‘what have we learned? What can we gain from it? Where can we develop from it going forward?’, so that things like that don’t happen again, and that’s ultimately what I maintain with it.
“I certainly want to look back at the turn of the New Year knowing that we maxed out as much as we could in 2023, and what things we’ve learned from 2023 that we can take into 24, and continue to progress and move forward.
“Certainly for me as an individual, you never really want to stand still. I’m always open and receptive to listen to ideas and different options, and try different things, and I think that’s where the learning comes from, whilst always maintaining that competitive edge. That always will be and continue to be.”
The Terriers have been handed an extremely tough assignment at the start of this year with regards to their fixture list. Town suffered a 4-1 defeat at Championship leaders Leicester City on New Year’s Day, while they take on treble-winners Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday in the FA Cup third round.
Town will return to Championship action on January 13 when they host Plymouth Argyle at the John Smith’s Stadium, and Moore is eager to keep pushing his players to get better, as they seek to move away from the bottom three.
