Former Top Boss Questions Birmingham City Decision To Sack Manager

Wayne Rooney’s appointment as Birmingham City’s new manager hasn’t yet settled in. It has generated a lot of discussion and ripples. The manner the club handled John Eustace’s dismissal is the least of all.

Martin O’Neill is a man who has some experience managing clubs. In a TalkSPORT interview, the former manager of City’s bitter rival Aston Villa expressed his opinions regarding Eustace’s treatment.

It was a really unfortunate dismissal. Birmingham is now sixth in the Championship, and their performance has been improving. There were no overt indications of discord. However, the new owners would want to run things their way, and Eustace fell prey to their avarice.

O’Neill said in the interview, as BirminghamLive reported. “On that point, I do concur with Simon Jordan; this is what Birmingham City is aiming for. Let me consider it from John Eustace’s perspective. He has led Birmingham City to sixth place in the league, but during the past two seasons, they have had several issues, not the least of which is the ground, which is barely suitable for use.

Now that the Blues are in the running for the playoffs, Rooney will be closely watched and subject to additional scrutiny. Anything less than progress will be considered as a poor choice. Something O’Neill was anxious to bring up.

“He must have known exactly what was expected of the club, especially in light of the recent ownership changes.”

Regardless of the position you were in, your desire would be the same if you weren’t in the major leagues: you would want to get promoted with the team you manage. If John Eustace was saying, “If we just avoid relegation, we’ll be okay,” I would be shocked.

Writer’s Opinion

Every game, Wayne Rooney will be closely examined. The first is a difficult road game against former teammate Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough. Anything less than a stellar performance and outcome will be met with severe criticism. O’Neill has nothing but compassion for a manager who has done
