Wigan signs new four-year deal

Sam Tickle, the custodian for Wigan Athletic, has agreed to a new four-year contract that will keep him at the League One team through the summer of 2028.

After going through the Latics’ programme, the 22-year-old England Under-21 international made his debut in October 2021.

With 52 appearances across all competitions and 18 clean sheets, he had a breakthrough season in 2023–2024.

Manager Shaun Maloney remarked, “His attitude has been exemplary, both on and off the pitch.”

“We’re excited to work with Sam over the next few years to help continue his development. He is an incredible young talent.”

Tickle’s campaign culminated in being crowned the club’s player of the year, alongside his accolades from the England U21s.

In March, he was awarded his first cap against Luxembourg, where they won 7–0 while he kept a clean sheet.

“He’s a phenomenal custodian with the potential and desire to play at the very top, and we’re delighted that he’s committed his long-term future with us,” Sporting Director Gregor Rioch continued.
