Rotherham United boss Steve Evans reveals he is ‘preparing document’

Rotherham United boss Steve Evans is preparing a document for Millers chairman Tony Stewart as the end of the 2023/24 season approaches.
In their penultimate league game, Evans’ team lost 2-0 to Bristol City, but Rotherham’s relegation has already been confirmed for a long time. Evans is scheduled to present a strategy to Stewart the following week. The team is already preparing for a return to League One.

Evans said, “This is one of the biggest challenges I have taken on, but I am confident that we can bounce back next season,” following the defeat at Ashton Gate. I’m working on a document that will outline my goals and strategies for getting us back into the Championship for the chairman.

“He wants me to be brutally honest and that will be the case. I will deliver the document next week and then the hard work begins.”

Tommy Conway’s penalty put Rotherham behind at Ashton Gate, and Scott Twine increased the Robins’ lead shortly after. Evans acknowledged that his team did not deserve to win, but he maintained that Bristol City’s penalty kick should not have been given.
“We were definitely second best today,” he stated. Although Bristol City outperformed us technically, I was pleased with my players’ commitment to their assignment.

“Tom Eaves had a fantastic opportunity to start the scoring. They will argue that their keeper overreached himself to make the save, but goals decide games, thus it was a crucial play.

“I wish we had taken the lead so we could have seen how we performed. However, it was not meant to be, as the referee erred in awarding the penalty. I now know Tommy Conway wasn’t fouled, even though at the time I believed he went down late.

“Though I wasn’t sure there was a foul, there wasn’t much we could have done about the free-kick. However, the players persevered till the very end.
