Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Manchester City are vying for Champions League slots next season with Nottingham Forest and Newcastle.

You can’t get five out of six. Only three positions in the prestigious European club championship remain up for grabs, as Liverpool and Arsenal are expected to secure a spot in the Champions League with ease.

When the summer transfer window opens, Newcastle and Forest will be looking to add players to their squads in preparation for the upcoming season, regardless of what happens with their respective clubs.

As Nuno Espirito Santo and Eddie Howe try to be ready for another successful season in 2025–2026, it would seem that the two teams might even be competing for some players.

Nottingham Forest and Newcastle want Federico Gatti

With Juventus captain Gatti in the sights of both teams before the window reopens, it would seem that Forest and Newcastle are shopping at the same market this summer.

The 26-year-old has been with the Old Lady since 2022, and according to Juventus FC, the Serie A team is open to selling the centre-back this summer even though Gatti is making headway in negotiations for a new contract.

The footballer has made 40 appearances for Juventus during the 2024–25 season and has led the team multiple times, however he is now sidelined with an injury and is not anticipated to return until May.

Gatti has made 103 appearances for the Turin-based powerhouses, but it appears that the team is willing to let him go in the summer, as a Premier League team is now expected to make a move for him.

The gifted player will make Forest supporters think of Nikola Milenkovic. Gatti might be more expensive than the £12 million the Reds paid for the Serbian, but he might provide a comparable contribution to the team.

In the summer, Forest will require a new centre defender. Willy Boly will most likely be released by the Reds, and Murillo may depart the team if a European powerhouse meets his price.

Playing in the Champions League this season has given Gatti huge game experience, which might be advantageous to Forest if European football is guaranteed before the season ends.

Although Newcastle may have the upper hand with Gatti, Forest has shown in the past that they can fight with larger teams for players, and the Italian defender might end up being a very helpful addition.
