Ciaran Kelly’s return to the pitch this season is “very doubtful”, according to Bradford City manager Graham Alexander.
During the match against Notts County last Thursday, Bradford City’s defender sustained an ankle injury. It’s possible that BCAFC will have to live without him until the summer.
Kelly, 26, has made 22 appearances in all competitions for the Bantams this season, 20 of which have come in the league, and he has chipped in with one goal from the back. He is out of contract at the end of June and is due to become a free agent as things stand.
In this latest update regarding his condition, Alexander has said, as per a report by the Yorkshire Post: “Ciaran hurt his ankle and has been for a scan and started light jogging today, just to speed up the rehab process. We are going to see if he will still be available this season, but it looks very doubtful to be honest.”

Bradford City drew 3-3 at Chesterfield last time out with Bobby Pointon, Antoni Sarcevic and Alex Pattison on the scoresheet. They are back in action this weekend with a crucial away trip to Doncaster Rovers before facing Fleetwood Town at home on the final day.
Bradford City injury blow for Ciaran Kelly
Not having Kelly available isn’t ideal for Bradford City. He gives BCAFC more competition and depth in defence.
The Dublin-born man joined the Bantams back in 2023 to boost their defensive department. He has since played 69 matches altogether.
Prior to his switch to West Yorkshire, he caught the eye in the League of Ireland with Bohemians. He has also had spells in the past at St Patrick’s Athletic, Drogheda United and Ballymena United.
Bradford City need to weigh up whether to keep hold of Kelly for longer. They risk losing him for free if they don’t offer him an extension.
Will Bradford City get promoted?
The battle for promotion from League Two is going to the wire and Bradford City are well in the mix. BCAFC will want to return to winning ways against Doncaster Rovers though.

Recently, the Bantams’ performance has somewhat declined. They control their own destiny because they are in third place in the league and one point ahead of Walsall in fourth.
Alexander’s team has lost all three of their previous games. They should tighten up the defence because they have also let away nine goals.
Doncaster Rovers, their next rivals, were seated at the top. Three points separate Bradford City from the opposition.
