Kyle Walker’s career may be significantly impacted by Chris Wilder’s departure from Sheffield United given his connections to the Blades.

After the Blades lost to Sunderland at the last second in the Championship play-off final, Sheffield United has chosen to replace Chris Wilder with Ruben Selles this summer.

Although many will be shocked by the decision to fire Wilder, it was made after the owners forced a change in strategy. Sheffield United wanted to hire a more statistics-based manager, which might not have been the best fit for the former Blades player in terms of hiring.

Even if Selles seems like a good fit to replace Wilder, the former Hull City manager can’t duplicate one thing, which could cause problems if Sheffield United makes an aggressive bid to recruit Kyle Walker from Manchester City.

One thing that Chris Wilder had at the club, being a Sheffield lad, is a deep connection to all the fans and players, both past and present.

Especially with Sheffield United staying in the Championship, any chances of signing Walker would be incredibly difficult, whether it is the wages or the ambitions of the player to potentially want to go to a higher level.

Nonetheless, Walker has said that he wishes to retire at Sheffield United and put the famous red & white kit on at least one more time in his career.

The team would be willing to move for Walker, according to an earlier EFL analysis. As a fellow Sheffield-born Blade, Wilder may have had a significant role in luring the Man City full-back to Bramall Lane due to his influence on Walker, something Selles might not be able to duplicate.

Wilder was very vocal about how much he would want to welcome Walker into the team. He would make a good addition to the current Blades team even at the age of 35.

“When he was talking about finishing his career at Sheffield United, he never mentioned that maybe he might have a visit to the Middle East or somewhere in Italy before,” Wilder said in an interview with The Star last season. Wilder chuckled. When he seizes that chance, we’ll still be there. Having exceptionally gifted people who have accomplished everything in the game and still adore Sheffield United is fantastic.

It’s excellent. I am aware of how important the club is to him. He has never lost sight of his origins. He and a few of his friends occasionally give me FaceTime calls. He adores the club, and you will undoubtedly see his face here sometime.

Walker’s return home would have depended heavily on this relationship, but given the new management, ownership, and course, it is reasonable to conclude that such a deal would not be pursued. With Wilder now gone, it would also make sense that Walker might not be quite as hopeful about a move.
